This week Steve had the pleasure of facilitating several free workshops on networking.
A key takeaway was this:
For career success, you need a network that has 3 different kinds of people.
- Those who open opportunities for you
- Those you can learn from
- Those who support you unconditionally to be your best
This issue is about #3 - finding the right people to support you.
Let's get into it:
Here's a secret to success:
Don't try to succeed alone.
As Jim Rohn said, "you become like the 5 people you spend the most time with".
Who are you spending time with?
Are they people who help and support you to be your best?
We're coaches and have been coached, so we've seen how high-quality support enables huge achievements in careers and lives.
It's fair to say: we're biased.
But whether you find an amazing accountability partner, work with a mentor for free, or pay to work with a coach, it's crucial to find the right person to support you.
How do you do it? Here are our thoughts.
3 KEY INGREDIENTS TO FINDING THE RIGHT SUPPORT FOR CAREER SUCCESS
1. Inspiration
You have so much to offer the world.
The best coaches and mentors will inspire you to be your best.
They inspire you to discover what makes you brilliant and unique.
They inspire you to embrace who you are and what you want to create.
They inspire you to live up to your goals and dreams.
We like this phrase: 'do what gives you goosebumps'.
Find the person who's willing to ask what gives you goosebumps.
2. Accountability
Creating a career that gives you goosebumps requires getting out of your comfort zone.
But you're human.
Humans like comfort.
At some point, building a career you love will feel uncomfortable and you will want to quit.
The key is to surround yourself with people who will keep you accountable in those hardest moments.
Someone who keeps you on track when you're doubting yourself.
Someone who points out when your fear is getting in the way of your success.
Someone who helps you show up for yourself, even when you don't want to.
3. Unconditional love
This is someone who doesn't care how much money you make or whether you're in a good mood today.
They're always in your corner.
Typically, your partner, a family member or friend could fill this role.
But it can also be someone from a community of like-minded people - those who share similar values, passions and goals.
Find your tribe and start building relationships with people who uplift you.
For the action takers:
- Check your top 5. Are the 5 people you spend the most time with people who truly support you to be at your best?
- Consider who you need in your network using the 3 ingredients. Do you need more inspiration, accountability, or unconditional love? Or all 3?
- As coaches, it's our job to be all 3 of these for you, through thick and thin. If you'd like to find out about the coaching support we offer, get in touch with us here . We'll organise a free call to chat with you about your needs and how we can help.
Last, thanks so much to those that attended Steve's sessions this week on networking.
We had people from over +10 countries joining in - it was very cool to share and collaborate with everyone.
