Weā€™ve been totally Olympics-obsessed in our household (go Canada šŸ)!

And of course, itā€™s got us thinking about the parallels between elite sports and running a successful business.

Hereā€™s one we love, and think is worth sharing:

Your success isnā€™t just about talent and having a great strategy.

Actually, it's much more boring than that.

Itā€™s about consistent, disciplined execution - day in, day out.

Take Ariarne Titmus for example.

She holds the world record for the 200m and 400m freestyle, and has won two golds and a silver in Paris this past week.

Her ongoing success highlights just how crucial consistency is:

Swimming is one of the hardest sports to excel in because it requires hours and hours of really BORING training.

Swimming up and down the pool, staring at a black line, working on getting your technique absolutely perfect, and building strength and endurance.

Ariarne is so successful because sheā€™s put in the consistent, boring work - honing her craft for years, doing the hard yards day after day.

Then, when itā€™s time to compete, she has everything needed to succeed: the confidence, strength, skill, and stamina.

The same goes for business.

You win by putting in the work consistently.

So, how do you do it in your business?

Here are 5 ideas:

5 IDEAS TO BUILD CONSISTENCY IN YOUR BUSINESS

1. Focus on the Fundamentals: Learn to master the fundamental skills of great business - leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, sales & marketing etc.

2. Embrace Routines: Establish daily, weekly, and monthly routines to structure the work that needs to be done, prioritising and executing whatā€™s most important first.

3. Measure and Track: Keep an eye on your performance to spot areas for improvement and celebrate successes.

4. Learn from Setbacks: Donā€™t let challenges throw you off. Treat them as opportunities to learn and grow.

5. Celebrate All The Wins, Even Small Ones: Recognise and reward consistent effort and achievements within your team.

Youā€™re in for the long haul, right?

Waiting years and years to celebrate only the big wins is a recipe for feeling like youā€™re swimming up and down the pool with no joy in sight, ever. You're bound to quit.

In the swimming world, the phrase ā€˜itā€™s a marathon, not a sprintā€™ becomes ā€˜itā€™s 8 swim practices a week for years and years, not a sprintā€™.

Same goes for business.

Stick with it, and youā€™ll see the medals come through.

What can you do to build consistency in your business?

And are you also Olympics obsessed?
