Getting a new job can feel like being on an emotional roller-coaster.

But it can also be the best financial decision you make.

Today we're sharing 3 strategies that can help you master your emotions throughout the job search process.

Let's get into it:

First things first: it's totally normal to encounter self-doubt when you're looking for a job.

Typical questions that can challenge you:

  1. Should I really leave my existing job?
  2. How do I deal with rejection during my job search?
  3. What happens if I choose the wrong one?

This newsletter will help you answer each of these questions, so you can get that new job and achieve your next big career goal.

And if you're not in the job hunt process, read on anyway.

There's valuable advice for when you're considering a big change in the future, career or otherwise.

3 STRATEGIES TO SETTLE YOUR EMOTIONS ON THE JOB HUNT

1. The 'Should I leave my job?' doubt:

Leaving something "known" for something "unknown" can be a huge blocker for many people.

It can be uncomfortable to leave what you're familiar with, especially when the new thing isn't a sure thing.

When doubt is coming up, take time to get clarity on:

  • Is my current role aligned to achieving my big life and career goals?
  • Will I be able to achieve my long-term financial goals if I stay in this role?
  • Am I growing, learning, and progressing in my current role?

Getting clear on these questions will help you clarify whether leaving for something new is worth the uncertainty.

And remember, you don't have to leave tomorrow.

All you need to do is choose to align your next move with your longer-term goals.

Once you do this, then you can start confidently making a plan to make your career move, knowing that it's worth it.

2. The 'What if I get rejected?' fear:

If you're seriously job hunting, you will almost certainly get a few rejections.

It doesn't have to feel awful though.

Here's the key:

A 'win-or-learn' mentality.

Adopt this mindset and it will become your superpower.

The mentality of win-or-learn simply means if you don't succeed, you're still coming out on top.

Every failure or rejection is an opportunity to learn and improve.

No one succeeds in riding a bike for the first time.

The important part is to learn from falling down.

Apply this to your process of getting a new job.

Failure + Reflection = Progress

Don't let any negative feedback get in your way.

Embrace it and learn from it.

3. The 'What if I choose the wrong job?' worry:

Most people have a fear of choosing the wrong job.

Here's one magical sentence that will cure this fear:

You can change again.

And seriously, how many people do you know who made a career change and told you they wish they'd stayed put?

We're guessing not many.

So it's unlikely that making a change will go horribly wrong for you.

And in the slight chance that it does go wrong, you can move again.

You only have 1 career and 1 life.

Make the most of it.

The typical rule of thumb to give your job a chance: 6 months.

If 6 months go by and you are unfilled and unhappy, it may be time to start the process again.

For the action takers:

  • Assess if your current job is in line with your BIG goals and that you are continuously growing (see our Career Accelerator Checklist here).
  • Take 5 minutes daily to reflect and assess on what you could be doing differently. Every application, interview, and experience should make you better for next time.
