Last week we talked about how to attract your ideal clients, but we didn’t get the chance to dive into our favourite part:
Figuring out how to STAND OUT in a crowded market.
We absolutely love helping businesses separate themselves from the pack.
The creative thinking, the strategy—it’s fun stuff to work on... AND it's what makes the difference when you get it right.
Because here’s the thing: how you differentiate yourself from your competitors is what gets people to sit up, pay attention, and choose your business.
So today, we’re picking up where we left off last week with Part 2: how to stand out from your competition (and what NOT to do, too).
Let’s get into it:
3 WAYS TO DIFFERENTIATE YOUR BUSINESS IN A CROWDED MARKET
1. Use Your Expertise
The more you can show you know your stuff, the more you'll stand out.
When people see that you’re the expert, they’ll trust you more and choose you over others.
What this means for your business:
Focus on becoming the go-to in your field.
Share your knowledge, show how much you know, and position yourself as the problem-solver for your ideal client.
Create blog posts, video & social content, or run webinars to showcase your expertise in action.
2. Create a Remarkable Customer Experience
Great service isn’t just about providing a product or service; it’s about how you make your customers feel.
Go above and beyond in creating an experience they can’t get anywhere else.
The word 'remarkable' is intentional here—you want the experience to be so good that people remark on it, ideally noting to themselves and their friends and family how wonderful you are.
What this means for your business:
Focus on creating experiences that delight your customers at every touchpoint.
Think about how you can make them feel heard, valued, and cared for.
Even small touches like handwritten thank-you notes or personalised follow-ups go a long way.
3. Share Your Personal Story
People connect with people—not businesses.
When you share your personal journey, your motivations, and the "why" behind your business, you create an emotional connection that makes clients see themselves in you, connect with your purpose, and want to work with you.
What this means for your business:
Don't be afraid to share your story.
Be authentic about why you do what you do, and show your customers the human side of your business.
When your audience relates to your story, they connect more deeply with your brand.
Okay, so that's what to do.
Here's the opposite:
What NOT to Do to Stand Out
- Don’t Compete on Price Alone – Lowering your price just to beat competitors often leads to a race to the bottom that you'll never win. Instead, offer value people are willing to pay for.
- Don’t Be A Carbon Copy Of Your Competitors – If you’re doing exactly what everyone else is doing, you’re not standing out. Even if you offer the same product or service as a competitor, find your unique angle and make sure it’s clear in your marketing.
- Don’t Forget About Your Current Customers – It can be easy to take your current customers for granted while you're out searching for new ones. Don't do this. Always try to go above and beyond for them; they already love you and are likely to be your best advocates if you treat them well.
- Don’t Overpromise – Make sure you’re setting realistic expectations. The last thing you want is to disappoint a customer when you can’t deliver what you promised.
Bottom Line:
Differentiating yourself in a crowded market doesn’t have to be complicated.
Focus on showcasing your expertise, delivering an unforgettable customer experience, and sharing your personal story to create an emotional connection.
When you do that, you’ll naturally stand out from your competition and attract customers who are a perfect fit for you.
Hope you have as much fun figuring out this one as we do!
