We recently started working with a client who was convinced they needed to completely overhaul their entire sales team.
They were ready to get drastic - thinking that was the only way to achieve the growth they wanted.
But here's what they were missing:
You don’t always have to make radical changes to achieve significant growth.
In fact, if you focused on getting just 1% better every day, you’d be 37.78 times better in 12 months.
James Clear covers this in his book Atomic Habits:
So, after working through it together with our client, we decided not to jump into a full-scale redesign of their sales team.
Our approach was much less drastic — focusing on making small, consistent improvements.
After quickly seeing a 25% improvement in sales, they are now on track for even better than 1% a day.
Here are 3 criteria to help you decide when it’s better to focus on incremental improvements, not wholesale change:
3 CRITERIA TO DECIDE WHEN TO MAKE 1% IMPROVEMENTS
1- When Your Foundation is Solid:
If your fundamentals are strong, but results aren’t where you want them to be.
Our client had a half-decent sales strategy, good processes, and experienced salespeople.
The work needed to be focused on refining all of these, not wiping everything out and starting from scratch.
2 - When Resources Are Limited:
If time, budget, or people resources are tight, making small, manageable improvements is probably a better tactic.
You can still achieve growth without the cost and stress of a major investment.
3 - When Change Resistance is High:
If your team or clients are likely to resist big changes, start with smaller adjustments.
Over time, these can lead to the massive difference you’re aiming for.
So this week, we challenge you to think about your own business -
Where did you assume you needed wholesale change to make a big difference?
Consider whether 1% a day would do instead.
Have an awesome week,

TLDR:
- It can be easy to assume that to grow your business, you need to make drastic changes.
- Focusing on getting 1% better every day can make a significant impact.
- Make incremental improvements when your foundation is solid, resources are limited, and/or change resistance is high.
- Reconsider where you've assumed you need massive change in your business to grow.
