Are you a baseball fan? (Go Blue Jays!)
The World Series concluded this week, so of course we're thinking about the links between baseball & business.
When some young players come up in the ranks, they make the mistake of always swinging for home runs.
They want those big hits, the kind that get you noticed.
But here’s the thing: great players aren't aiming for home runs.
They know that success comes from hitting singles—over and over again.
It’s the same in business.
Most people try to succeed by swinging for the fences—big, risky moves with the hope of massive payoffs.
But real, lasting success comes from doing the small things well and doing them consistently.
Put home runs to the side.
Focus on the simple actions you can do every day.
When you do ordinary things extraordinarily well, success follows.
Here are three “ordinary” things that, if done consistently, will boost your success:
3 'ORDINARY' THINGS THAT WILL MAKE YOU MORE SUCCESSFUL
1. Prioritise Good Sleep
It’s common sense, but common sense isn’t always common.
When you sleep well, you’re sharper, more focused, and better equipped to handle challenges.
A little hack we use?
We have a sleep trigger: every night, we play a game of Wordle, and then turn on a podcast.
The effect? Almost like clockwork. We hear about 20 seconds before we’re out!
2. Follow a Routine You Can Rely On
Routines might sound boring, but they're the backbone of high achievers and successful businesses.
Knowing what needs to get done each day means you’re not wasting mental energy on figuring it out.
Structure your day in blocks or set consistent times for essential tasks.
In your business, set up recurring meetings (budget review, project planning, 1:1s with your team members, etc.) so you're consistently coming back to the things that move your business forward.
3. Prioritise Relentlessly
Life will always throw plenty of distractions your way, and success often comes down to staying on track in spite of them.
By choosing every single day to work on what matters most, you’ll be batting distractions away, and building momentum toward your biggest goals.
We like to take a few minutes every morning to identify what’s most important for the day—both short- and long-term goals.
We make it a habit before diving into work, which means no unintentional time wasted on low-priority tasks.
It helps us stay on course and ensures we’re making progress on what really matters.
Bottom Line: Success doesn’t come from the massive hits that you get every so often, but from consistent, focused effort on the ordinary things.
Start small, do it well, and watch as the momentum builds.
If you want to explore how consistency can create breakthroughs in your business, let’s chat.
